Prayers and Devotions to God the Son
The Lord Jesus, the Son of God and Son of Mary, the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity; he is the Word of the Father made flesh, God-with-us (cf. John 1:14). In him we have salvation, redemption, fulness of life, and communion with one another as members of his body (the Church).
Prayers addressed to Jesus often focus on particular aspects of his being or moments of his life, such as his Holy Name, his Passion and Cross, his Sacred Heart, and his presence in the Holy Eucharist.
come and live in your servants, in the spirit of holiness, in the fullness of your power, in the perfection of your ways, in the truth of your virtues, in the communion of your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, through your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen.
here and in all your churches that are in the whole world, and we bless you; because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the World. Amen.
through your infant cries when you were born for me in the manger; through your tears when you died for me on the Cross; through your love as you live for me in the tabernacle, have mercy on me and save me. Amen.
teach me to be patient when all the day long my heart is troubled by little but vexatious crosses. Amen.
and desire nothing, save only you. Let me hate myself and love you. Let me do everything for the sake of you. Let me humble myself and exalt you. Let me think of nothing except you. Let me accept whatever happens as from you. Let me banish self and follow you, and ever desire to follow you. Let me fly from myself and take refuge in you, that I may deserve to be defended by you. Let me fear for myself, let me fear you, and let me be among those who are chosen by you. Let me be willing to obey for the sake of you. Let me cling to nothing, save only to you, and let me be poor because of you. Look upon me, that I may love you. Call me, that I may see you, and for ever enjoy you. Amen.
your Heart still cherishes all the redeemed and is moved to pity for every human need. Aware of your invitation, ‘Come to Me,’ we pray for the afflicted, the sick, the confused, for all broken hearts, and shattered lives. We bring to you all their material, emotional, and spiritual needs as well as our own. By the love that led you to take flesh of the Virgin Mary, we pray that you might enfold us all in your merciful love heal our wounds and grant us what accords with your holy will. Amen.
and I thank you for all the graces you have given me this day. I offer you my sleep and all the moments of this night, and I implore you to keep me safe from sin. To this end I place myself in your sacred side and under the mantle of Our Lady, my Mother. Let your holy angels surround me and keep me in peace; and let your blessing be upon me. Amen.
teach me to be generous, to serve you as you deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to look for any reward, save that of knowing that I do your holy will.
for all the benefits which you have given us, for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us. Most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother, may we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen. |
