Our work with Schools
RE Learning, History Curriculum, and Collective Worship for Local Schools
We are committed in supporting the invaluable work of local schools and academies by helping to deliver RE Learning, History Curriculum, and Collective Worship.
Here is what we are able to offer. RE Learning for Primary Schools
Interactive learning sessions are planned in partnership with teachers, and delivered by a team of volunteers from the Churches Together in Houghton Regis. Sessions are based on themes chosen with teachers to better support the delivery of the RE curriculum and complement the learning experience offered by the school. Pupils are encouraged to learn key concept of Religious Education, to compare and contrast practices across Christian denominations, and to think critically while taking part in an arts and crafts activity. History Curriculum and RE Visits at All Saints'
With over one thousand years of Christian worship on one site, All Saints' Parish Church is the perfect learning environment for exploring key moments in national history and the development of Christian practices in the UK. Visits are tailored to better support the aims of the curriculum, whether this be from an historical point of view or an RE one. Pupils are encouraged to explore our Grade I listed church with guidance from our volunteers, to ask questions about the history and the religious significance of the place, and to discover the unique heritage of our church. Collective Worship
We are able to deliver or support Collective Worship for local schools, whether on school premises or at All Saints' Parish Church. Sessions are planned to fit within the requirements of each school. We are happy to offer weekly, termly, or stand alone sessions, depending on the school's objectives. Worship is led by the Parish Priest or by a Lay Leader of Worship and it follows a simple pattern: engagement with pupils about the chosen topic, a Bible passage, some time for reflection, and a prayer (usually also with the Lord's Prayer). Open the Book Assemblies
Open the Book offers primary school children an opportunity to hear key Bible stories told by a team of volunteers from the Churches Together who present the stories with the help of pupils in a way that is fun and engaging. Volunteers present a 10–15-minute scripted Bible story, involving the children as much as possible and ending the session with a prayer. |
Key Information Sessions are always free; they are run by volunteers for the benefit of each school. Volunteers are DBS checked and have completed relevant safeguarding training. Our work is limited to the geographical area of the parish of Houghton Regis (including Linmere, Thorn, Bidwell West, and North Dunstable).
