Compline
'Before the ending of the day,
Creator of the world, we pray...'
The ancient office of Compline derives its name from a Latin word meaning 'completion' (completorium).
This is quiet and fairly informal service, where people are invited to read psalms, listen to the Scriptures and to the words of Christian writers, reflect, and entrust themselves to the loving care of God before rest at the end of the day. Compline is usually said at St Thomas’, Lowry Drive, where this short service usually takes place before the Lord Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament, and it broadly follows the order of ‘Night Prayer’ set forth by the Church of England. Everyone is welcome! |
