The Sunday Gospel

Bible Study notes from The Gospel Reading Group
Each week we gather to read, reflect on, and discuss the Gospel that will be proclaimed at the coming Sunday Mass. Together we explore the background and meaning of the text, and the ways in which God's Word continues to speak into our lives today.

Whether you have studied the Bible before or are opening it for the first time, you are warmly invited to join us. There is no expectation of prior knowledge - only a willingness to listen, ask questions, and discover the richness of Scripture in the company of others.

The sessions, prepared by our Parish Priest, are informal, friendly, and shaped by conversation, allowing everyone the opportunity to share insights or simply listen and reflect.

At the heart of the Gospel Reading Group is a simple conviction: the Bible is the living Word of God that continues to challenge, encourage, and transform us today. We hope you will come and explore it with us.

A prayer before reading and studying Scripture

Almighty and everlasting God,
who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning:
help us so to hear them,
to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them
that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word,
we may embrace and for ever hold fast the hope of everlasting life,
which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
